FGS Industrial offers expert confined space cleaning across Kent, the South East, and beyond. Our certified teams safely handle high-risk environments in industrial, construction, utilities, and waste sectors, from blocked culverts and silo deep-cleans to emergency tank cleanouts.
What is Confined Space Cleaning?
Confined spaces are enclosed or partly enclosed areas with limited access, poor ventilation, and hazards like gas or low oxygen. These include plant rooms, tanks, drains, silos, and more. Cleaning requires specialist planning, equipment, and trained professionals to ensure safety and thorough results. We manage the entire process from inspection to waste removal and safety reporting.
Certified Specialist Teams You Can Trust
Our City & Guilds-certified operatives are highly trained in confined space entry, breathing apparatus use, emergency rescue, first aid, and permit-to-work systems, ensuring safe, effective operations on every job.
Risk Assessment & Compliance
Before starting, we carry out detailed Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) including hazard identification, safe work procedures, emergency plans, and permits. We fully comply with the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 and maintain the highest safety standards.
Serving Kent, the South East & Beyond
We provide one-off cleaning, scheduled maintenance, or emergency response, scaling our teams and equipment to fit your site’s requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions:
What is considered a confined space?
A confined space is any enclosed or partially enclosed environment with limited entry or exit points and a potential risk to health and safety. Common examples include tanks, silos, manholes, culverts, and even areas like lofts or plant rooms with restricted access and poor ventilation.
Why is confined space cleaning high risk?
Confined spaces can present multiple hazards, such as low oxygen levels, harmful gases, risk of entrapment, or exposure to hazardous substances. Cleaning in these environments requires stringent safety protocols, specialist equipment, and fully trained personnel.
Do your teams hold confined space qualifications?
Yes. All our operatives undergo nationally accredited confined space training, including City & Guilds courses. We ensure each team member is trained for the level of risk involved in the task, from low to high risk, including the use of breathing apparatus and rescue techniques.
What safety procedures do you follow?
Before any work begins, we carry out a detailed Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS). Our teams use gas monitoring, full PPE, harnesses, tripods, winches, and where required, emergency rescue provisions. We comply with all Confined Spaces Regulations 1997.
Do you provide confined space rescue cover?
Yes. For high-risk environments, we provide standby rescue teams who are trained in emergency extraction and first aid. This ensures that if an incident occurs, an immediate, on-site response is available.
What sectors do you work in?
FGS Industrial supports confined space cleaning across a range of industries, including waste management, water treatment, construction, manufacturing, and agriculture. We tailor our approach to the specific hazards and needs of each site.
Can you help with confined space risk assessments?
Absolutely. Our experienced team can assess your site and advise on safe working practices, entry requirements, and ongoing compliance for confined space operations.
What kind of equipment do you use?
We use a wide range of specialist equipment, including gas detectors, breathing apparatus, confined space entry kits, rescue systems, industrial vacuum units, and high-pressure cleaning equipment, all regularly tested and maintained.
Do you offer emergency response services?
We can support planned and reactive confined space works. For high-risk or time-sensitive tasks, contact us directly to discuss availability and response times.
How do I arrange a site assessment or get a quote?
You can contact our team via our contact form, call us directly, or email us with your requirements. We’ll be happy to arrange a free initial consultation to assess your confined space cleaning and safety needs.

Case Study: Emergency Confined Space Cleaning Following Fire Incident
Brief
After a fire broke out beneath a production machine, production was halted, and urgent cleaning was needed to enable a safe and timely restart. The affected area was a confined space, and immediate access was requested. FGS Industrial was called in by a valued customer to respond quickly, with safety and compliance as the top priorities.
Challenge
While the customer was eager to resume operations, the area presented several significant hazards. FGS Industrial conducted a rapid yet thorough risk assessment and advised on the necessary safety measures. This included deploying a team of two to three trained operatives, atmospheric gas monitoring, and a standby rescue team prepared to act if required.
The confined nature of the space, coupled with fire damage, meant that no shortcuts could be taken. Safety procedures needed to be strictly followed to protect personnel and ensure the area could be cleaned effectively.
Solution
FGS Industrial mobilised without delay, putting in place all required controls for safe confined space entry. Operatives worked efficiently, supported by a dedicated safety team who ensured full compliance with permit-to-work systems, gas testing, and real-time monitoring throughout the operation.
The space was cleaned thoroughly and without incident, allowing the customer to restart production with confidence and minimal delay.
This case reflects FGS Industrial’s commitment to delivering responsive, high-quality service – always with safety at the forefront.
Case Study: Confined Space Operations at a Customer site
Brief
FGS Industrial was engaged by a valued customer, to carry out two critical confined space tasks. The first involved supporting FGS fitters with the installation of a water valve inside a backwash tank – a key upgrade to improve flushing and cleansing of the site’s filtration system. The second involved cleaning a large prefiltration tank to remove a heavy build-up of iron deposits.
Challenge
Both tasks required entry into high-risk confined spaces, demanding strict safety protocols, trained personnel, and specialist equipment. The first task required close coordination with the fitting team in a restricted environment. The second presented a greater physical challenge, a 10-metre-high, 2-metre-wide vertical tank, accessed via a rider winch. High-pressure water cleaning had to be carried out with great care to avoid damaging the internal tank lining.
Solution
Our confined space team supported the valve installation efficiently, ensuring the mechanical work was completed safely and without delay. For the prefiltration tank, operatives were lowered in using the rider winch system and carried out a controlled high-pressure clean, removing the iron deposits while preserving the tank’s interior.
Both operations were completed on time, incident-free, and with minimal disruption, demonstrating FGS Industrial’s ability to deliver safe, specialist work in demanding environments.
