Case Study – Industrial Cleaning:
- Brief
Our client was experiencing airflow issues within their waste to energy plant due to a large dust build up within the working area. Sufficient airflow is required to ensure the temperature levels are optimised, in turn, improving the efficiency of the plant. - Challenge
Removal of dust build up on the plant floor had not been completed for 6 months prior to FGS Industrial’s involvement. Large amounts of material was required to be removed without causing airborne contamination. - Solution
A team of our industrial cleaners were sent to the plant to remove the dust build up. The team swept the material, and prepared it for safe disposal by placing it into bags. All operators worked seamlessly within the operation, ensuring zero downtime of plant operations. FGS Industrial staff now clean the site daily, including regular cleaning of the filters to further improve airflow.

Case Study – Confined Space Cleaning:
- Brief
Our client, a leading provider of sustainable packaging solutions, required industrial cleaning services at their Kent-based facility. The project involved the cleaning of production machinery, including a hard-to-reach silo in a confined space. Given the challenging environment, the project demanded highly trained operatives with expertise in confined space entry and safety procedures. - Challenge
The project presented two key challenges:- Confined Space Constraints: The limited access within the silo required operatives with specialist confined space training to carry out the work safely and effectively.
- Strict Safety Compliance: Adhering to rigorous safety protocols was essential to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
- Solution
FGS Industrial provided expert confined space operatives through our flexible labour service. Our team carried out thorough industrial cleaning, removing contaminants to maintain system integrity. Throughout the project, we strictly followed safety procedures to ensure a hazard-free environment.
As a result, the project was completed on time, safely, and to a high standard, improving the client’s operational efficiency and ensuring full regulatory compliance.
Case Study – Thanet Fibre Optic Cable Installation:
Brief
The Joss Bay, Thanet, project involved delivering enabling works and support services for a Utilities company, focused on the installation of a fibre optic cable that extended from approximately 1.5 miles from offshore into a confined space chamber on land. The operation required close coordination between multiple teams to manage confined space entry, marine cable pulling, and onshore welfare provisions, all within a tight coastal footprint.
Challenge
The primary challenge involved the intricate operation of bringing a subsea cable ashore, navigating it through a confined tunnel, and precisely installing it within a 10ft by 10ft concrete chamber. This required precise control, strict safety protocols, and robust logistical planning. Site access, limited space, and environmental sensitivity added further constraints. Ensuring welfare, power, and waste infrastructure for all site personnel was also critical to maintaining efficiency and compliance.
Solution
FGS Industrial deployed a confined space team of three specially trained operatives to assist with the internal pull of the cable through the tunnel into the chamber. Their expertise and strict adherence to safety protocols ensured the site remained ready for confined space operations at all times.
FGS Plant supplied excavators that served as fixed anchor points for the pulley system used in the subsea cable pull. These were carefully positioned to act as static deadweight’s, enabling the controlled movement of the fibre optic cable from offshore, through to the tunnel system, and into the onshore concrete chamber. FGS Plant also provided tower lights to ensure the site remained safely operational around the clock.
Four Jays Group delivered all welfare units and infrastructure for the project. This included a 24-foot static canteen split unit, a 24-foot mobile welfare unit, a 12-foot towable office, Heras fencing for perimeter security, and on-site toilets – ensuring the workforce was fully supported with high-quality facilities throughout the works.
To support access and site setup, FGS Utilities provided temporary access trackway, installing 80 H Mats in an L-shaped formation, creating a stable base for welfare units, lighting towers, toilets, and skips, while Countrystyle Recycling completed the service with responsive waste management,
Outcome
Through close collaboration across the Heathcote Holdings group, the Joss Bay project was delivered with a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility. The multi-disciplinary support ensured operational readiness across all areas, from confined space capability to plant machinery services and welfare provision, contributing to a smooth and well-coordinated cable installation.
Our customer commented:
“Dealt with all our requirements quickly, delivered on time. Perfect services all round.”
