The Client:
Our paper mill client is one of the leading suppliers of sustainable packaging solutions, paper products and recycling services worldwide. As of today, they operate in more than 30 different countries, employing over 30,000 people.
Their North Kent site is the largest mill for recycled papers in the UK, and the second largest in Europe. The mill has an annual production capacity of around 820,000 tonnes and is the second biggest recovered fibre-based paper operation in Europe.
Challenges:
The paper mill has a number of tanks throughout the site which are vital to the day-to-day operation of the plant. These tanks require yearly maintenance to ensure they are functioning at their best productivity and reducing potential downtime of the mill.
To minimise the financial impact of plant downtime, annual cleaning is scheduled exclusively during periods when the facility is not in operation. Given the substantial input and output levels of the mill, the only feasible non-operating window coincides with the festive period.
Our Role:
FGS Industrial Facilities Management were more than happy to assist, working around our clients operating period to provide a bespoke cleaning operation. Due to the nature of the task at hand, our confined spaces trained team was utilised to safely start the clean-up process. We also had our own safety team assessing the site and our work throughout the operation.
As part of our services, we provided vac tankers to remove excess liquids, skilled industrial cleaners, Skies pump and HP jetters.
